About The Founder
Born and raised in the picturesque town of Kasama in the
northern province of Zambia, Africa, I discovered early on that art and helping
people were intricately woven into the fabric of my being. As a child, I
harbored a deep passion for clothing, but the means to acquire the outfits I
envisioned were often beyond my grasp. I vividly remember scrimping and saving
from my grocery budget just to afford an ensemble that even remotely resembled
my dreams.

My journey as an entrepreneur commenced in 2017 when, at the
tender age of 18, I embarked on my first business venture in Zambia. My family
had relocated from our small town to a more rural setting due to my father's
new role as District Commissioner. It was here that I quickly realized a
glaring deficiency in our community – easy access to telecommunication
providers. Residents had to endure brutal 30-minute bike rides or crammed taxi
journeys to the nearest town for their mobile service needs. Determined to make
a change, I opened a branch in our small town, securing a partnership with a
national mobile service provider to offer a broad array of services and
assistance.
Shortly thereafter, I noticed yet another challenge I could
address. There was a nearby school with students who lacked access to quality
clothing. I embarked on a journey with a close friend who has since become an
entrepreneur and author, traveling abroad to source clothing for sale. In doing
so, my store transformed into a hub for mobile services and stylish clothing.
It wasn't long before I could hire an employee to assist me.

The turn of events led me to Canada in 2017, where I
enrolled at the Schwartz School of Business at St. Francis Xavier University.
In 2020, I launched my first business in Canada, Wankunda Designs. Finally, I
had found a way to blend the three pillars of my passion: art, clothing, and a
deep-seated commitment to making a difference in the lives of those less
fortunate.
Having grown up in a close-knit community, I couldn't help
but be moved by the sight of street children who lacked the love and protection
I had been fortunate enough to receive as a child. This emotional experience
fueled the creation of Wankunda Designs, a business with a purpose. Our mission
is to provide quality clothing while allocating a percentage of our profits to
assist those in need. We began with hoodies and bucket hats, and soon, we were
able to channel ten percent of our earnings to my hometown in Zambia, helping
five deserving families.
